Pastor Problem? Me? -- John McCain
Submitted by wrolley on Wed, 03/26/2008 - 1:17pm.Alex has given us a lot to think about over the Rev. Wright's Jeremiad. However, he is not the only candidate with a problem endorsement from a fiery preacher. How is McCain escaping the scrutiny of his endorsement by the Rev. James Hagee? You may remember that he was the one who blamed Hurrican Katrina on the citizens of New Orleans allowing a gay parade. I don't have a youtube video to repeat ad naseum, but you can listen to Hagee rant on NPR.
Ask a Green to Wear Blue on Earth Day?
Submitted by wrolley on Tue, 03/18/2008 - 1:23pm.I posted on this over at California Greening. I tried to cross post it here, but had a problem in that it did not save correctly. I periodically have that problem when I try to use cut and paste to build an entry.
If you wonder what it is all about, well, that was part of the reason for the title. It is all about what you might do on Earth Day, especially if the Democrats has scheduled a primary in your state as they have in Pennsylvania.
Accentuate the positive...
Submitted by wrolley on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 12:22am.We would all like to accentuate the positive, especially when you consider our presidential candidates. It would appear that we will end up with either Ralph Nader or Cynthia McKinney running.
Ecology and Green Politics Part III - Choose your future
Submitted by wrolley on Fri, 02/08/2008 - 11:29pm.This is not what I intended to write next. However, when I ran across the webcast the Ed Mazria did this past week, I have no option but to focus the rest of this on just that It only takes 30 minutes to watch, but you could learn how to save a planet.
California's "Green" Governor
Submitted by wrolley on Sat, 01/26/2008 - 12:44am.I find it amazing just how often Ahnuld is held up as the Green governor example for all to see. Well, maybe in comparison to some that might be the case. However, I would like the rest of the world to see what one California thinks of T3. The author of this is the editor of a West Coast magazine dedicated to fishing. I just recieved a press release in my email.
Do you believe?
Submitted by wrolley on Thu, 01/24/2008 - 12:58am.Do we all believe in what we talk about? Are we enogh of believers to really act or do we just like to talk?
This is all about the fact that, even though the Green Party strongly backs renewable energy we all see different ways to make it real. Some of us have enough of a socialist leaning that stock ownership may not not be something they would do.
Ecology and Green Politics, Part II
Submitted by wrolley on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:55pm.In my previous post, Part I, I explained how I came to the conlusion that "deep ecology" should inform Green Politics. This was posted here and also on a the GPUS_FreeSpeech email list. Howie Hawkins responded to a question about "social ecology" and I obtained his permission to post that repsonse here, because it leads me into a new consideration.

Ecology and Politics Part I.
Submitted by wrolley on Sun, 01/20/2008 - 8:12pm.I have given a lot of thought about the relationship between the ideas of deep ecology and the politics of the Green Party. I have never before tried to put my ideas down in a concrete statement as to why I believe that this relationship is critical to the success of the party.
This is rather long, but probably needs to be. I will need to follow it up with further explorations of the topic over the next several weeks.
Tribal Rights Not Just about Gaming
Submitted by wrolley on Thu, 01/17/2008 - 12:16pm.If you listen to main stream media, you would think that the only issue regarding the rights of Indian tribes have to do with Gaming. In California, where I live, there are four initiative measure on the ballot February 5 that would expand gaming for four tribes. The number of television ads that you see about these initiative measues far exeeds the number of ads you see for all presidential candidates combined.

Submitted by wrolley on Mon, 01/14/2008 - 10:12pm.Mike Feinstein is putting the video segments of this up on YouTube. These are divided into segments, generally one per question.
Some have had a head start.

They will later be linked from the party Web Site with some introductory / identifying text. But, if you want to get a head start, here it is.
Presidential Debate Coverage
Submitted by wrolley on Mon, 01/14/2008 - 12:57pm.This is just a list of some of the media coverage from the Green Part Presidential Debated.
San Francisco Chronicle: A little condescending. But, it did get covered in a major regional paper.
Words have Meaning: Why Democrats choose Obama.
Submitted by wrolley on Mon, 01/07/2008 - 10:59am.I will go out on a limb and predict that Barack Obama will win the Democratic nomination. It is a big limb almost broken off from the weight of all of those who are on it. Still, I have not yet heard anyone give the rationale that made up my mind on this It is a matter of his choice of words.
If you listen to his speech in Des Moines when it had become clear that he had "won" the caucus selection there. It was filled with the word "we."
The challenge of Obama
Submitted by wrolley on Fri, 01/04/2008 - 1:40pm.Barack Obama's victory in Iowa last night identifies a major challenge for the Green Party. He built this election victory by appealing to the very voters that we need to attract. People turned out in record numbers in Iowas, twice as many in the Democratic Caucus as in the Republicans. The ones who caucused for Obama were frequently younger, many were independents. He is the one that voters have now given the mantle of being the agent of change. The fact that Edwards and Clinton finished in nearly a tie indicates a repudiation of all the mainstream stuff.
Grassroots Defined
Submitted by wrolley on Sun, 12/30/2007 - 11:58am.We all use the term "grassroots democracy" with abandon. I sometimes wonder if we have abandoned it's real meaning. Far to many appeal to the value of grassroots democracy as a euphemism for "no one is listening to me".
Just as a test, I went out into my yard and dug up some grass to look at its roots. I noted several things which may be a clue to the real meaning.
