Update from Crawford

It's been a long day for me (talking about Thursday). I slept in my car at the camp site because of the rain. Stayed awake until after midnight to see if there was any truth to the rumors that Cindy would be arrested just after midnight. Didn't happen, but there was some random police crusing. I was was off down a dead end road and didn't get bothered by much of that, nor did I hear a cop car that reportedly went through camp twice about 4:30 honking up a storm.
Woke shortly after sunrise. I first went into town for breakfast at the Peace House(a wonderful omelet) and coffee. Then up to camp.
The numbers of families and supporters continue to increase. A project by Santa Monica VfP to install hundreds of small white crosses was begun about 10. Each cross is to be labeled with a name of a slain service member. A press conference was at about 11. Cindy is so articulate and calm at these things. She is clear and focues and doesn't get sidetracked. Other family members also spoke very well, again calling on Bush to meet with them.
I was interviewed by some of my (Oklahoma City) local media, including a radio show, the NBC affiliate (kfor.com) and the Daily Oklahoman. I also spoke to Discovery Channel and a German filmmaker.
Media is here from everywhere! Argentina, Korea, France, all over the US. Today a reporter for Time magazine and a writer for Air America's Randi Rhodes came. And that's just the one's I happened to overhear identify themselves. This place is thick with media.
Since we were asked to do our personal "business" in town and not in the tall grass, I took a "shuttle" into town before lunch. While grabbing a quick opportunity to upload some photos, John, one of the co-founders of the Peace House came in with a brand new HP computer and printer. He asked if anyone knew how to put it up, so I volunteered.
The rest of the day, until almost 9 pm, was spent doing that and what that snowballed into. DSL wireless had been ordered that morning, and about 3 a guy showed up to install it (perhaps the feds expidited the order for us.) So now the Peace House is wired and visitors, media, et. al. can flip out their laptops and get online. By the way, the DSL was the result of one generous donor who gave just for that purpose. What a gift!
I also set up the 3-in-1 printer/fax/copier and helped John check into the House's Paypal account and have some funds transferred to their bank. As has been reported in Cindy's diary at DKos, the donations are over $30,000 and are not slowing down.
Contributions are still needed. This place had/has still has a lot of needs (except heart and courage of which they have much).
Hoti, another co-founder, held a meeting to address the very serious car issue. There are simply too many of them. Several ideas were proposed and many will start being implemented tomorrow. My part of that will be enhancing their web site to include more logistical info.
Please see my photo report at www.okimc.org/photos/thumbnails.php?album=4 The pics are from Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
