You can and the best part is that it's free! Unlike yesterday's wasteful and energy intensive Live Earth concerts or Al Gore's $30,000 utility bill over the past two years, you can actually make a difference by replacing your conventional water heater with a tankless model.

I scored my Titan tankless water heater on Ebay for $188 - $61 cheaper than the model retails for through Titan. I replaced my Ruud 50-gallon water heater in two hours and the experience was relatively painless. I now have unlimited scalding hot water to every fixture in my home, am using approxmately 60% less energy to heat water and am saving about $15/month on my electric bill.

There's more. You also currently receive a $300 tax credit for installing one of these puppies. This should not be confused with a deduction. A credit comes straight off of the the top of your federal tax liability.

I'm out $188 for the heater. I saved $61 purchasing it through Ebay, will save $180 in the next year on my electric bill and I'll get a $300 tax credit (heater plus installation) for making the switch. That's a net plus of $353 or about two months worth of free groceries from Whole Foods or Wild Oats.

What's not to like about that? When you're done, you'll already have done more to help the environment than born again environmentalist Al Gore did during his entire service in Congress and eight years as vice president during the Clinton administration combined.
