Courting Green Bloggers for the 2008 Convention (and in general)

In the GP-US Media Committee we have a fantastic initiative on the table for attracting Green Bloggers to the 2008 Green Party Nominating Convention. A guerrilla marketing strategy in the finest progressive political tradition, the idea is to draw a healthy number of Green Bloggers to come, participate and do live blogging.

This welcome positive energy comes from the hardworking and dedicated South Central LA Green Ms. Sedinam Kinamo Christin Moyowaisfza-Curry (or SKCM Curry) (kcmcurry43(at)yahoo.com) who is a candidate for the 2008 Green Party nomination for Vice President of the United States.

Here's is the e-mail exchange detailing the initial ideas:

To see our 'metablog' - a growing community of Green Party bloggers, I ask everyone to take a moment and go right now to http://www.GreenCommons.org. I urge all of you to sign up (no charge) and start blogging there with us. And by the way, several candidates are already participating. If you really, really want to help, send the Green site administrator Serena Blaiz (AKA Commoner or GypsyResort) a contribution.

As A if not THE leading blogger of the Green Parties I endorse the concept of really trying to court bloggers including having a room set aside for and parties for us. Thank to SKCM for once again leading the way by coming up with this *brilliant* guerrilla marketing concept and injecting such positive energy into our work.

However, I think its vital for us to focus on quality not quantity and especially in attracting our own Green Party bloggers rather than The Duopoly bloggers. Especially since way too many of the Dems DailyKos.com 'Kossacks', DemocraticUnderGround.com 'DUers' and Repub Redstate.org and FreeRepublic.com 'FReepers' are fanatical, mean-spirited, narrow minded, fact-stretching if not outright lying gangs of biggots so devoted to worshiping their Duopoly parties and such deniers of reality that they will be certain to utterly trash our event -- no matter how kind and charming we are to them and no matter if we have the most orderly procedings or our usual semi-choas. Really! Take my word for it there's way too much viciousness out in Duopoly-blogland and it would only bring a bad negative vibe to invite many of them. I don't think we could possibly be equipped to deal with the onslaught that inviting a gaggle of them would bring.

Instead let's focus primarily on our own Green Party bloggers and then get a smattering of others that we think would be fair-minded. Beyond our GreenParty bloggers there are people from BallotAccess.org and ThirdPartyWatch.org and other independents that would be very valuable to draw. We could find many other interested allies that would be supportive I believe.

The main thing that stopped many of us Green Bloggers from coming to Reading is that the Green Party bloggers tend to be less well off and can't easily afford the trip. Scholarships could be helpful. Also having a live stream of the events on the web would help more of us to be able to participate on some level.

If people are serious about supporting Green Party bloggers they can start by being a regular reader and contributor to GreenCommons.org where many of us hang out. Talk to us and get our ideas. Court us early on and gain our trust and support. Green Solidarity at GreenCommons.org!

Green is Innovation!

Daily Kos was a great website for little-known political news last year, but like all other social sites it's gotten out of control this year. It didn't deserve O'Reilly's hatemongering but O'Reilly didn't deserve the crazy stalking they gave him in return. The all-around bashing they've been giving third parties also serves to turn off independent minds. Green Commons should present itself as a quieter and more reasonable alternative, where progressive ideals are upheld but all opinions are given respect.

It's inaccurate and unfair to say "they", meaning all Kossacks, endorsed or participated in "the crazy stalking" of O'Reilly. That was Mike Stark of callingallwingnuts.com. He got plenty of grief about it from many, many other members at Daily Kos.

Mike is a good guy, who may have gone over the line in this instance. But he is very clearly way more progressive than the average Kossack. Unlike Keith Olbermann, I'm not going to over-react to the incident, and take away from Mike's other work, which is *considerable*.

Personally, I think there are far worse things that happen at the orange place on a regular basis, particularly concerning feminist issues. And those statements come (usually) from the mouths of the owner and his chosen representatives, thus are fairly pegged as Daily Kos policy/endorsements.

as in a Green alternative to the DailyKos' of the world, but I don't think GreenCommons is that. The way I see GC is that it is an internal conversation within the Green Party, whereas at least in the beginning DK, DailyUnderground and others made noise about being an outreach to progressives generally.

Also I agree that Stark overstepped himself by his 'stalking' actions. His mistake was to imitate the excesses of BillO. Poor model to imitate! But I agree with what Commoner said that Stark has contributed a *lot* of good work in the past and hopefully will right his course quickly.

But isn't that the whole problem of the Grey parties? They think that by out-dominating the dominators they's make progress which is just foolishness since what it actually does is corrupt the participants and bring them over to the dark side themselves.

JamBoi, can you flesh out what you envision this "alternative outreach blog" might be like? Perhaps you are right about GC having more of a belly-gazing focus, but if GC is the GPUS "internal conversation" place, maybe we can develop this idea further. Why don't you post a blog entry on it?
