The tweaker cometh
Submitted by commoner on Sun, 05/25/2008 - 12:14pm.Update: The site will be down starting about 9pm EDT tonight. With luck, I can get things finished up by morning.
As administrator of this site, I've neglected Green Commons for a while. My apologies for that neglect, which is the result of not only stressful familial responsibilities, but also political frustrations in general.
It looks like I will have some time today and Monday, 5/26, to reacquaint myself with the site, check out the newer members, do a version upgrade, clean up the database and fiddle with the backend a bit.
A number of fixes and improvements are needed, but because of my long absence, I may not be aware of all of the problems being experienced.
So please use this thread to tell me anything you think I might not know. If we've discussed your issue via email, you do not need to repeat it here, unless you just need to vent :-) .
I'll need to take the site offline to do some of that, which will probably be in the PM on Monday. So please make your comments/suggestions now. If you want to contact me directly rather than post here, use the feedback form while we're online, and greencommons (at) gmail (dot) com when we're not.

Improving "Green Commons"
Submitted by Steve.Loebs on Wed, 01/30/2008 - 4:35pm.The best web sites make visitors and authorized users want to come back. They know that they need lots of good content to fit the various interests of their users to drive repeat visits. Therefore, they are welcoming of content from a broad range of authors' preferred content.
A few suggestions for this site...
Submitted by esteban on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 6:46pm.It appears to me that that traffic on this site is ramping up. I believe this is the site where Greens will converge to share thoughts and opinions (which is one of the reasons I haven't, ahem, updated my own site in quite some time). With that in mind, I offer the following suggestions to build on the theme update done a while ago...

Look to the "recent comments" sidebar
Submitted by Gregg Jocoy on Sun, 12/30/2007 - 12:22am.commoner set this blog up, and as traffic and participation grew the site attracted some folks who wanted to post spam here. She then set up an "Akismet" thingy which puts comments into a queue for review and eventual publication or rejection.
commoner has given me, and others I assume, the opportunity to review and either publish or reject these comments. Normally I left all that in commoner's hands, but since she has been less able to invest time here than I know she would like, I have taken up the slack a bit. Sadly, I am sure I am not doing as good a job as I could. Therefore...

green change
Submitted by greenchange on Sat, 12/15/2007 - 8:38pm.Hi everyone. Take a look at http://www.greenchange.org. Green Change is a community of people with Green values: justice, democracy, sustainability and non-violence. We work together to share Green art, politics and culture. In early 08, we will launch an online community network.

Check in
Submitted by commoner on Fri, 11/23/2007 - 12:29am.Greets to all. My apologies for being out of touch for so long. Lots of family, personal and technical drama, none of which is worth going into.
But I'm thrilled to see the place is humming along without me, LOL!
I so need to do some maintenance, and hope to get to it this weekend, or the first part of next week, so heads up on that. I will let you know when I have a more specific time frame for the downtime.
Some of the upgrades and changes I'll make will, I hope, make posting here easier, and reduce the need for heavy moderation. We may have to endure the occasional troll, but I think we can handle it.
Since it's still Thursday as I write this, let me take the opportunity to say THANKS to all you Commoners for participating in this site, and of course all you do in your own communities, tales of which make this site so interesting.
Shoutout to users wrolley and AlexWalker:

To post, or not to post
Submitted by Gregg Jocoy on Fri, 10/12/2007 - 9:10am.I got an email recently from another fellow who posts her regularly. He pointed out that very few of us are responsible for most of the recent posts here, and I note that the group of folks in question are all men.
I worry...do I speak too forcefully, making others afraid to speak their mind? I have been told that men often have this problem. Do others not have information, ideas, opinions or stories to share, or are the rest of you too busy "in the streets" to post here?

Using the User Profiles for networking and fun
Submitted by commoner on Mon, 08/06/2007 - 9:48pm.You may have noticed that a couple of theme tweaks have appeared recently. We now have user pictures/icons displayed next to blog posts and comments, as well as Author information in the sidebar of the full blog post page (/node/xxx).

While the admin's away...
Submitted by commoner on Sun, 07/08/2007 - 4:27pm.I've been AFK (away from keys) -- well, actually, away from internet access -- for a few days. It was an unexpected situation, so unable to prepare ya'll for the absense. Sorry for any glitches that occurred while I was AWOL.
